Zermatt Schmermatt

Yeesh, for a second there, all of the commands here in Blogger were in German. Not okay.

Hello from Switzerland! My mom and I started out in Geneva for two nights, and now we're in the lovely town of Zermatt, which is surrounded by mountains on all sides, including a big 'ne called the Matterhorn.

This is the view from our hotel room:

A picture's worth a thousand words, so I'll be quiet. I must say, though, it's a little bizarre traveling from French-speaking Geneva to German-speaking Zermatt in under four hours; same country, different languages everywhere. If I could have any superpower, it would be to speak and understand every language on the planet. Just FYI. I'll add that to my Christmas wish list.

I have an update on the BBC job as well. Last Thursday, my phone interview was rescheduled for today at 11 AM UK time, or noon Swiss time. I gave them our Swiss mobile number and hotel phone number in Geneva, and then I waited in our hotel lobby just after check-out, anticipating the call.

Again, it didn't happen.

I phoned their recruitment folks in Belfast after only twenty minutes this time to see what was going on, but they had to get back to me on it. After another hour, we were on the train to Zermatt, and I was quickly losing cell phone coverage, anyway (we don't have any bars here in the hotel, for example, which is understandable)--but I hadn't heard anything back by then. I figured I'd done all I could on my end and had to wait for an explanation from the BBC.

It came in the form of an email this afternoon, saying that they had tried to phone me at both lines, but neither had worked (a little bizarre, to be honest, since we'd tested the mobile and everything). The contact said that they had to make a decision and hire someone based on interviews they had already conducted in person--so this gig hasn't worked out for me. A minor setback. However, this recruitment contact was also very apologetic and said that I could contact her directly about any future BBC job applications. A bonus! A bit o' silver lining. It gives me further motivation, which is fantastic at this stage--and of course I followed up on my TV Locations job application in my email response to her. We'll see! Again, no use getting my hopes up over these things; it'd just be great if one worked out.

So, jet-lag and now altitude sickness (which is fatigue on top of fatigue, really). Time to get some rest, m'dears!

Thanks for reading!
