It's past midnight, two days before I head out--and lemme just say Europe's looking sweeter with every minute that the Republican National Convention airs. I will not miss seeing those crackheads over the next two months.
I'm moved out of my apartment and now staying in my aunt's lovely studio for the week. I got some more packing done tonight--just to pare down my final suitcase load and create one more box to have shipped to me once I'm settled in the UK. My suitcase was going to be massively overweight, otherwise, which would suck in traveling around Switzerland on holiday first. (I don't know if I've mentioned that, but I'm spending ten days in Switzerland before entering England.)
The BBC interview hasn't happened yet. I was ready and even dressed up in professional-wear on Monday morning--to get in the zone, if you will--and then the call never came. I phoned their recruitment staff after an hour and a half of waiting--and they've been really lovely so far as they try to figure out why the department folks never called me. Hopefully it'll be resolved before I leave, but if not, my mom has a Swiss cell phone number from one of her co-workers that I can give them as a contact number. All is not lost.
I was pretty stressed about that situation on Monday, but by this point the plan is to not get my hopes up and to apply for more jobs (one was a TV Locations department position at the BBC, which would be fantastic as well; I love working out production location logistics).
A few quick resolutions for the UK:
- Create a new budget for every month.
- Stick to your friendly budgets.
- Don't go to Starbucks. (I give it a month--or until the Christmas drinks are introduced again.)
- Don't listen to any emo songs--just kick-arse ones like "Low" by Flo Rida.
- Partake in all English customs except for the rampant alcoholism.
