Done and done!

I've moved into a flat!

That's one important facet sorted, isn't it? I decided to go with the first flat that I viewed, believe it or not, so now I'm already typing from my itty-bitty, but very cozy room using our wireless Internet! Earlier my housemate Daniel and I went out to the high street (main street), where I deposited the rent and safety deposit into my other housemate's bank account (since she's the lease-holder)--a whopping £440 altogether. As I said, incredibly cheap for a room in London. I estimated that I'd have to spend £800 for the deposit and October rent, so I'm doing quite well in saving money for now.

I also picked up some necessities, like new sheets, pillows, and a duvet--also pretty cheap, all things considered. We went to a "swag shop," a cheap store for all of your household staples, and it was only about £50 altogether. (I thought Daniel said "slag shop" and imagined a clothing store suitable for hookers.) I bet you'd pay about $150 in the States for the same amount of stuff that I got. (And yes, you can consider the exchange rate and think I spent about $100, but considering the cost of London living generally, it's like spending $50. I have to think of pounds as my regular currency now.)

I love it here already. Great housemates--we've chatted over tea (yum) and King of Queens (shameful, I know), Katerina's really charming, and Daniel's a huge movie buff, so I'm thinkin' we'll all get along! I haven't met Lucie, my third housemate yet, since she's home in the Czech Republic, but she sounds swell as well.

In the meantime, I've applied for loads more production jobs in the last couple of days. I found out that I didn't get an interview for that TV Locations job at the BBC, which is disappointing, especially considering that first phone interview that never happened, but I'll keep on trucking. I even worked up the courage to phone some hardcore feature film production companies today and made it past their receptionists! It seems like a good sign when they let you to contact someone in production directly and don't just tell you to email your CV to generalofficeemailaddress@bigcompany.com. I've also been applying to positions through recruitment companies, which always seems daunting; they're the gatekeepers to some really hotshot companies. HOW DO I BREAK THEM? ( :-) )

I'll keep you posted, as ever! Time to go grocery shopping at Tesco!
