Validation, Sort Of

Time for a job search update. I haven't counted the number of applications I've sent off, but it has to be at least twenty-five or thirty by now, which is a huge start. I've also started cold-calling companies for a bit more information about them. I kicked Skype in the face and started using a good, old-fashioned phone card instead (200 minutes to the UK for $10; not bad at all!).

Then this morning I had a voicemail message from one incredibly cool production company requesting an interview! For one, I didn't know for sure that my cell phone could accept international calls, so that was a relief. And further--of course--it got me pumped because although realistically I'm applying for jobs a little too early, this message was validation in a way. It means that I stood out to one company and run the chance of finding something equally excellent once I move to London.

The catch was that they wanted to interview me next week and needed someone to start almost immediately afterward; I expected that would be the case, so it didn't work out this first time--but even so, it was a rush to get that call and make a connection with them. They're going to keep my CV on file in case anything else comes up.

Just thought I'd share the good news. There's progress!

Also, I want to take a second to plug Tropic Thunder. I saw a sneak preview of it on Tuesday, and it's the funniest flick since Hot Fuzz, since it makes fun of films and filmmaking to the max and does it wicked well.
